As a community partner for this screening, GYOPO invited director Justin Kim WooSǒk to introduce Bong Joon Ho’s Barking Dogs Never Bite. His remarks offered historical context and background on the film and its director. Bong’s feature debut is the perfect gateway into the director’s cinematic imagination, which is realized by his rigorous examination of every character and his exploration of the numerous possibilities and encounters presented in the narrative. Barking Dogs Never Bite is centered around an unemployed academic and his satirical battle against barking dogs in his apartment building. In the film, dogs serve as a metaphor for the director’s exploration of human nature, unearthing the characters’ true emotions and moral dilemmas while exposing their inherent darkness and absurdity.
